Dadan Lion Tombs
The Lion Tombs are rectangular recesses carved into the rock, varying in colour between red and white, each side measuring 80 cm and two metres deep. They are called the Lion Tombs because of the lion carved above the facades of the tombs. Researchers note that the lion was chosen for these facades because of what it represents in the cultures of the ancient world as a symbol of strength and might. The tombs date back to the fifth century BCE, the early period of the Kingdom of Dadan, which ruled the region at that time.
