Saysad Dam
Saysad Dam is an old archaeological dam south-east of Taif in a naturally protected area. It was built in the era of the Umayyad caliph Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan and is one of the most prominent historical landmarks of Taif. An inscription in Kufic script is carved on the face of one of its rocks: "This dam belongs to the servant of Allah Muawiyah, Commander of the Faithful. Abdullah ibn Sakhr built it, by the permission of Allah, in the year fifty-eight. O Allah, forgive the servant of Allah Muawiyah, Commander of the Faithful, strengthen him, support him and let the believers enjoy him. Written by Amr ibn Habbab."
