Jabal Al Rumat
Jabal Al Rumat (Mount of the Archers) is one of the most important historical landmarks that followers of the Prophet's biography are keen to visit, and it is also known as Mount "Aynayn". It lies south of Mount Uhud, bordered on its southern side by Wadi Qanat. The mountain gained great historical importance because the Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered fifty archers there, led by Abdullah ibn Jubayr (may Allah be pleased with him), to stay at their posts to protect the Muslims' rear during the Battle of Uhud and not to leave the mountain whatever happened. But when they thought victory had been achieved, most of the archers left their positions to collect spoils. Khalid ibn Al Walid, before he embraced Islam, exploited this gap and circled behind the polytheist army, which turned the tide of the battle and left the Muslims with heavy losses. Today the mountain is one of the most prominent places where this enduring lesson about the importance of obeying the commander's orders is told.
