Al Tawba Mosque
Al Tawba Mosque, also known as the Archaeological Mosque and called Masjid Al Rasul (the Messenger's Mosque) by the people of Tabuk, dates back to the Expedition of Tabuk in 9 AH, when the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) prayed in it for ten nights. The first building of the mosque was in the reign of the Umayyad caliph Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz, built of mud, with a roof of palm fronds and carved stones. It was rebuilt in the Ottoman period in 1062 AH (1651 CE), and again in the Saudi era, in the style of the Prophet's Mosque, in 1393 AH.
