Haddaj Well
Haddaj Well is one of the most famous wells in the Arabian Peninsula, located in the city of Tayma in north-western Saudi Arabia. A spring at its southern corner still feeds it today. The mouth of the well is wide, 15 metres (50 feet) across and 12 metres (40 feet) deep, irregular and round in shape, and lined with stones. It became a byword for generosity, and a giving man is described as "the Haddaj of Tayma". The well lies in the middle of the old town, ringed by tall palm trees, and is believed to date to the first millennium BC.
