Shada Al Ala Mountain
Shada Al Ala is a high rocky mountain, the highest in the Tihamah plain, lying roughly between the towns of Qilwah and Al Makhwah in south-western Saudi Arabia. Its summit is estimated at 2,200 metres above sea level. The terrain is dominated by smooth rock, giving the mountain a pale blue colour. On the mountain there is an emirate building, a school and a health centre, and electricity is available. A fairly good paved road reaches it, branching off the Al Makhwah-Qilwah road. In 2001 Shada Al Ala joined the Kingdom's list of nature reserves because it is home to a number of rare creatures and migratory birds, the most famous of which is the Arabian leopard.
