Thee Ain Heritage Village
Thee Ain is an archaeological village in Tihamah, western Saudi Arabia, about 20 kilometres from Al Makhwah Governorate and 24 kilometres from Al Baha. It dates from the tenth century AH and is more than 400 years old. The village is built on top of a white mountain and is known for growing bananas, lemons, peppers, basil and kadi, and for its handicrafts. It has many houses of two to four storeys, a small mosque, and many forts used to defend and watch over the village. It is also one of ten sites approved by the Saudi government in November 2014 to be put forward to UNESCO for inclusion on the World Heritage List in the coming years.
