Al Khalaf and Al Khulaif Village
Al Khalaf and Al Khulaif are two neighbouring village sites only two kilometres apart. Remains of various residential quarters have been found there, along with the remains of the square Al Khalaf Mosque, which covers 324 square metres and shows a fortified character in the height and thickness of its walls and the solidity of its construction. Al Khulaif Mosque has disappeared and nothing remains of it. Both sites contain many graves, as well as inscriptions: 27 have been found, covering an early period of the first Hijri centuries, all in Kufic script that progresses from simple to leafy to floriated. The two villages are in Qilwah Governorate, part of Al Baha Region, in Tihamah in south-western Saudi Arabia.
