Masjid al
The Grand Mosque (Masjid al-Haram) is the greatest mosque in Islam and stands in the heart of the city of Makkah in western Saudi Arabia. At its centre is the Kaaba, which according to Islamic belief is the first house established for people to worship God in, and the greatest and holiest spot on earth for Muslims. It is the direction Muslims face in prayer and the place they go on pilgrimage. It is called Masjid al-Haram because fighting there is forbidden, from the time the Prophet Muhammad entered Makkah in triumph. Muslims believe that prayer in it is worth one hundred thousand prayers.
