Al Khabra Old Town
Al Khabra Old Town was built more than 200 years ago from pure clay, which made it strong against time and erosion. It has more than 400 houses, built in a circular form resembling the layout of Baghdad in the Abbasid era, and has stayed intact. The village surrounds the Majlis souq and the mosque in a circle, so places of buying and selling lie in the middle of the town. The old town is in the middle of the Al-Qassim region of Saudi Arabia, on an area of 120,000 square metres, and was built around 1115 AH. It has been described as a sturdy fortress that stood up to invasions and military campaigns. It is called Al Khabra because it was a place where rainwater and overflow from Wadi Al Rumah, the largest valley in the Arabian Peninsula, once collected. It was also called Khabra Al Afalik after the Al Afalik family, its first inhabitants in the first millennium AH.
