Black and White Volcanoes
Harrat Bani Rashid is part of Harrat Khaybar, in the southwest of the Hail region near its border with the Madinah region. It is a vast volcanic field of about 14,000 square kilometres, formed by eruptions over millions of years and covered in lava and black volcanic rock. The harrat is known for its rare volcanoes, most notably Jabal Al Abyad (Al Bayda), distinguished by its rare white rock and a wide crater about 1,500 metres across, and beside it Jabal Al Qadr with its dark basaltic lava. This is why the site is known as the Black and White Volcanoes, and it is a destination for adventure, geology and photography enthusiasts.
