Fadak Heritage Village
Fadak is an ancient historic oasis in Al Hait Governorate, about 250 kilometres southwest of Hail. It was long an important farming oasis thanks to its abundant water and fertile soil, and was known for growing dates and grain. Its springs and palm trees still bear witness to this. Fadak saw notable historical events. The Babylonian king Nabonidus reached it on his campaign in northwest Arabia in the 6th century BC, and inscriptions attributed to him were found there. In the time of the Prophet, its people made peace with the Muslims after the conquest of Khaybar. The area has old castles and forts built of black volcanic stone, as well as Thamudic and early Islamic inscriptions.
