Kaf Heritage Village
Kaf Heritage Village is an old village near Kaf Castle, 27 km from the nearest settlement. It is made up of adjoining mud houses, with palm farms scattered throughout and an old stone mosque at its centre, and it includes a school also built of stone in the old Islamic architectural style. The village has a salt flat and several flowing sulphur springs used to irrigate the palm farms, and many visitors now come for sulphur-water treatment of skin conditions. The site was chosen for tourism because of its heritage and therapeutic value and its fit with nearby tourist sites such as Kaf Castle and Al Saidi Castle. At its northern edge is Al Saidi Mountain, topped by a castle dating to the Nabataean period that was later used as a garrison protecting the pilgrim route. It is built of volcanic stone, and the road leading to it is winding, with its sides paved in stone. On the northeast side of the mountain stands a large palace attributed to Sheikh Nuri Al Sha'lan, built of large blocks of sandstone.
