About the Artisans Fortress (Qalat Al Hirafiyyin) The Artisans Fortress, with its old, popular Al-Ahsa heritage character, is one of the most important landmarks of Al-Ahsa, an extension of its joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of crafts and folk arts. Artistically, the Artisans Fortress is notable for its striking design drawn from Al-Ahsa architecture. It stands on an area of more than 12,000 square meters and consists of shops for self-driven crafts, while other shops are set aside for crafts that use water. All the shops are linked by covered passageways with windows that let in natural light and ventilate the market. At the center of the fortress is an open courtyard with a traditional coffee house and a traditional tannour bakery, as well as an events plaza from which folk events and festivals are launched. The Artisans Fortress gives visitors a unique shopping experience through its amazing heritage shops, which bring together under one roof the pleasure of buying wonderful heritage products made by the hands of the city's most skilled artisans.
