Tarout Castle
Tarout Castle is one of the best-known historic landmarks in the Eastern Province. It stands north of Al Deirah village on Tarout Island, on an archaeological mound whose layers go back thousands of years. The current structure dates mostly to the 16th century, with stone towers overlooking the old town. The castle has recently been undergoing restoration, so entry may not be possible, but seeing it from outside and walking around it is worth the visit, especially in the evening when it is lit up. You can round off the tour at the nearby bakeries and private museums on the island.
