Murabba Historical Palace
A window onto Riyadh's past and a scene from its long memory, embodied in the walls of the historic Murabba Palace, which stands on an area of 1,680 square meters, overflowing with the memory of the place, the historical events it witnessed, and the glory made on its soil. The Story of Its Founding By order of the late King Abdulaziz Al Saud, founder of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Murabba Palace was built two kilometers from old Riyadh, in step with the city's development and expansion at the time. The palace and its surroundings were established as a miniature city with several buildings. The King moved to live there in 1939 as a residence for himself and his family, a seat of government and state affairs, and a court where he received the leaders and heads of state of the world. Authentic Architectural Heritage On your visit to the historic Murabba Palace you will notice the distinctive design with an inner courtyard at the center of the palace, which all the rooms overlook. It was built in the manner prevalent at the time, conveying a unique architectural art. The surrounding environment left its mark on the palace's components: rooms and ceilings were covered with tamarisk trunks and decorated with palm fronds and leaves, the foundations were made of stone, and the walls of mud brick mixed with straw, decorated with patterns and ornaments printed on plaster. Despite the simplicity of the building, its beauty stands out in the zigzag columns supporting the palace's rooms
