Al Habala Park
Al Habala Park is one of the most thrilling destinations in the Asir region, in Ahad Rafidah governorate about 57 km from Abha. It sits on the edge of a towering cliff overlooking the Sarawat mountains, with panoramic views that feel like walking above the clouds. Below the viewpoint lies the old village of Al Habala, a hanging village whose stone houses were built on a sheer rock face. It was named after the ropes (habl) that were once the only way to reach it and haul supplies to its people. When King Faisal bin Abdulaziz learned of their hardship, he ordered a modern village built for them, and the old site became a tourist destination. The park is known for its cable car over the valley (sometimes closed for maintenance), with huts and shaded seating for families and restaurants serving local food. Allow plenty of time, and bring a jacket as it is cool even in summer.
