Souq Suwaiqa
Souq Suwaiqa is one of the most important old, historic markets of Madinah. It used to lie west of the Prophet's Mosque, running from Bab Al Salam to Al Ghamama Mosque. The market was destroyed by a huge fire in 1397 AH, and the modern Souq Suwaiqa was then launched to echo the old markets that had vanished, combining modernity with historic heritage. The Governor of Madinah launched the project under the patronage of the Social Development Bank and with the support of Nama Al Munawwara, as part of empowering women in the job market, giving the city's young women opportunities in supplying and selling handmade crafts with a heritage character. The market is in the Heritage District within King Fahd Central Park in the south of the city, and is open Saturday to Thursday from 5 pm to 11 pm.
