Masjid Al
Masjid Al-Fash is one of Madinah's historic mosques, formerly known as "Masjid Jabal Uhud" because it lies on the mountain's foot, at the entrance of Shi'b Al-Jirar leading to Al-Maharis. It is significant because the Prophet (peace be upon him) prayed on this spot, and because it lies in the area where he took the Muslims for refuge in the final phase of the Battle of Uhud. In Shawwal of the third year after the Hijra, the battle was fought between Mount Uhud and the Archers' Hill; after the archers left their posts the outcome turned, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) withdrew with his Companions to Shi'b Al-Jirar and faced the polytheists until they halted their attack. It was first built in the time of Omar ibn Abdulaziz as governor of Madinah, between 86 and 93 AH in the Umayyad era, and it received great attention in the Saudi era.
