Masjid Bani Unayf
Masjid Bani Unayf is a historic mosque named for its location among the homes of the Bani Unayf tribe. It dates to the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him): it is reported that he once came to Bani Unayf to visit the Companion Talha ibn al-Bara ibn Umayr, may Allah be pleased with him, a young man of Bani Unayf who was ill, in the second year after the Hijra. During the visit the Prophet (peace be upon him) prayed in their homes near one of their fortresses; Bani Unayf were delighted and kept looking after the place where he prayed, and some time later built a mosque there. Historians have mentioned it throughout history, and Ali ibn Musa described it as "a small unroofed mosque". In the Saudi era the mosque received great attention: its old structure was preserved and walls of basalt stone with pointed arches were added to strengthen it, along with a tree-shaded courtyard surrounded by a stone wall that echoes Madinah's traditional architecture.
