Masjid Al
Masjid Al-Jumua stands where the first Friday prayer in Islam was held. When the Prophet (peace be upon him) migrated from Makkah, he stayed some days in Quba, then set out for Madinah, and the Friday prayer overtook him in a valley near where he was staying; he delivered the sermon and prayed with those who were with him. In the time of Omar ibn Abdulaziz as governor of Madinah, a mosque was built on this spot. It lies about 600 metres from Quba Mosque and about 2,300 metres from the Prophet's Mosque. It was rebuilt, expanded and equipped with the necessary facilities in the reign of King Fahd bin Abdulaziz in 1412 AH, on 1,630 square metres. It has prayer halls for men and for women that hold 650 worshippers, a slender, elegant minaret, and a main dome in the middle of the prayer hall, along with four smaller domes.
