Jabal Bani Ubaid
Jabal Bani Ubaid is an important Prophetic landmark and one of the boundaries of the Trench that the Muslims dug around Madinah in the fifth year after the Hijra. That year the Muslims heard that the polytheists of Quraysh and their allies intended to attack Madinah, and Salman the Persian, may Allah be pleased with him, advised the Prophet (peace be upon him) to dig a trench to stop the fighters from entering. The trench ran from Mount Ratij to Jabal Bani Ubaid; the Muhajirun dug from the Ratij side to Dhubab, and the Ansar from Dhubab to Jabal Bani Ubaid. The site witnessed one of the Prophet's miracles: while digging, the Muslims found a hard rock they could not break, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) struck it three times in succession, giving glad tidings of the conquest of the Levant, Persia and Yemen, and the rock broke apart. The mountain lies north-west of the Prophet's Mosque.
