Uhud Fort
Uhud Fort was the first protective fort built in Madinah, with two towers for defence and observation. It was built in the late Ottoman period, when the Ottomans feared rebellion against them, on the foot of Mount Uhud for observation and protection. It had openings for firing cannon and others for observation, with an open watch area. Its design is two interlocking round towers, the larger being the main part and the smaller connected to it from inside by a stone staircase leading to the roof. It was built of the mountain's own stone, so its colour blends with the mountain as if it were part of the rock. The fort lies in the north-west of the city, at the north-western end of Mount Uhud, about 9 kilometres from the Prophet's Mosque, and can be reached by Uthman ibn Affan Road, which leads to the north of Madinah.
