Al Maktaba Al Amah (Madinah Public Library)
The Public Library is a cultural landmark founded in 1380 AH in front of the Prophet's Mosque, and later moved to its current site in Al Bahr District. It holds modern and old books across many fields, along with many rare books and manuscripts, in total more than 14,000 manuscript and printed volumes. The Kingdom's government wanted Madinah to be a distinguished centre of learning and culture, so the library was founded as a worldwide reference for religious and cultural sciences, and to preserve the contents of the region's endowed libraries. The library has several facilities with specialised books arranged by a precise subject catalogue, modern electronic means for searching and reading, and quiet, well-prepared spaces that let visitors make good use of its collections.
